This classic “Anne” tour takes in the local communities associated with the best selling Anne of Green Gables books, television programs and stage musicals.
It includes the house which inspired the setting of the first book, Anne of Green Gables.
Our first visit is at Silverbush (Anne of Green Gables Museum) in Park Corner, the farmhouse which Lucy Maud Montgomery called, “The Wonder Castle of My Childhood”. The house fronts on the Lake of Shining Waters and is where Lucy Maud Montgomery married Rev. Ewan MacDonald in July 1911. The house is still occupied by the descendants of the Montgomery family. If you purchase one of Montgomery’s books, a family member will be pleased to autograph it for you.
En route we will pause at a popular location for a panoramic view of the fishing port of French River.
Our next stop is the Birthplace of Lucy Maud Montgomery in New London, the house in which she was born in 1874. A collection of Montgomery’s scrapbooks and letters, a replica of her bridal gown and other artifacts are here.
Our final visit to the trio of major Anne attractions is at Green Gables Heritage House in Cavendish. This house is the setting of the book, Anne of Green Gables. We will tour the house and grounds and view a short film on the life and works of Lucy Maud Montgomery, Prince Edward Island’s most famous author.
On our way back to Charlottetown we will travel through the Cavendish section of the Prince Edward Island National Park to North Rustico. Home to many descendants of PEI’s Acadian settlers North Rustico is a typical PEI lobster fishing village. We will make a quick stop on the busy wharf. Stretch your legs, browse the wharf for photo opportunities and maybe participate in a discussion of how lobsters are caught.
The final leg of the tour will be the return to Charlottetown through the rolling hills of the interior of The Island.
We will see many beautiful farms and spectacular seascapes on this tour.
Do not forget your camera!
